Worked. No summer league, just regular ultimate practice. |
Worked at Subia. Most of the stuff i was doing there was charts and graphs for presentations for Sandia Labs. Boring stuff, but i could fly through it. I started noticing that, given a stack of 50 charts to draw, in the same amount of time, Curtis would draw about 12, Bill would draw about 7, Butch would draw 5, and i'd draw 26. Those guys would pull me aside and tell me to not draw so fast. I'd nod in understanding and proceed to crank 'em out just as fast. I wasn't about to milk my time, i wanted to work. After a while it became apparent that i was overqualified for the boring charts and graphs, so Marc, the manager, had me start doing some stuff for Debi in the creative department. I sat down in front of a Mac in there one day and started doing some changes to a Quark XPress file. After a bit i told Debi that this was kind of a neat program. "Have you ever worked in Quark before?" she asked me. "Nope" i said. Whether this next part is true or not i'm not sure, but after i said that, Debi got up and walked down to Marc's office and said "hire him." So i was told that i'd be full time starting on Monday. I rode right from Subia after work that day to Caroline & Bill's house, nearly killing myself on a hard-to-see curb on the southwest corner of the intersection of San Mateo and Montgomery. I managed to swerve the bike into a sideways skid and stop before i hit the curb though. My dad was in town and we all went out to Monroe's for dinner. |
Got up way early and drove Bill & Caroline to the airport, then later took Daddy and Charlie to the airport. At some point i stopped by Natural Sound and bought a used CD: Animal Logic II. I was totally spent after ultimate practice so i came home and watched the Olympics. |
Drove over to Bill & Caroline's and watched MTV for a while, then came home, played ultimate, then watched "The Jewel Of The Nile" on TV that evening. |
I worked at Subia from Noon until 9:00, came home and ate ice cream. The hard drive in my computer crashed with pretty definite finality today. For a long time the hard disk drive simply wouldn't start spinning when i turned the machine on. To solve this, i drilled a little hole in the back of the cabinet and i'd literally push-start the drive using a toothpick. Then one day i had a major crash, the directory got screwed up and the disk had to be re-formatted. Fortunately i saved most of the important data off of the disk. So on i went, kick starting at will, until the toothpicks started to break, and i had to start using straightened paper clips to push the drive around. Today the drive crashed again (this time i lost a few things) and it started to make some not too cool scraping and screeching noises. Not being able to salvage it, i took it apart and discovered that one of the read/write heads had broken off and it was scraping all of the magnetic material off of the hard disk (one of the three plates comprising a "hard disk" actually). Coooool... |
Got a letter from my friend Cat today. played ultimate until the thunderstorms rolled in. |
Worked at Subia and house-sat for Bill & Caroline. Went to Sound Warehouse and bought a CD of Nanci Griffith - Storms. |

Worked at Subia and house-sat for Bill & Caroline. |
I came home today and Deb and Marty were sitting on the living room couch. Marty looked maybe a little more worn-out than normal. Deb looked happy. There were medical pamphlets on the coffee table. As i was walking into the kitchen, Deb asked "So guess what?". I stopped and seriously was just about to say that she was pregnant, but i just said "What?" "I'm pregnant", she replied. |
Worked at Subia and house-sat for Bill & Caroline. |
Los Alamos Atomic Blast ultimate tournament. I drove my van up there with James Barry and Ed. Our team beat Los Alamos and Las Cruces, lost to the other Albuquerque team, then stopped because of either darkness or rain while we were up 9-6 on Phoenix. We had dinner at Pizza Hut, then camped out on the fields. |
We beat Santa Fe in the quarters, then lost to Phoenix in the semis 15-12. The other ABQ team beat PHX 15-4 in the final. We all had dinner at Pizza Hut again, then drove home. |
