I knew that Henry and Xander were hiking the Long Trail, but i didn't know from which end or where they were on the trail. I had to take Seera out for a walk and was going to go to a field near my house, but at the last second decided to head down to the AT/LT parking lot on 140. Once i parked, i was going to hike north, but then decided that i'd go south. 100 yards down the trail, right where it crossed 140, were these two guys. Freaky. So i hiked with them for another mile or so, then turned around and headed back while they continued north. |

I packed up the Mini, dropped Seera off at the farm, and headed south to the one-class-below-me reunion at Concord Academy. I had been a little worried about the cooling system, but it was performing quite well... all the way to Bellows Falls. I was zipping along nicely when there was a bang and radiator fluid came flying out of the engine compartment. Coasted to a stop to discover that one of the freeze-plugs had popped out, so that was all the driving that car would do that day. I called a tow company from a gas station up the road and got towed all the way back to East Coast Collision in Mt. Holly ($175) and the driver was cool enough to give me a lift to my house. Drove the FJ over to the Mini, transferred all the stuff, and continued down to CA, where i hung out with Carl Douglas and John Wilson and Will Dewey and even my brother Jason. We stayed up until about 2:00 and i slept in the top floor room in Tucker House ("A" House) opposite to the one where i first lived when i came to CA. |
Lazy brunch with old classmates, some chatting afterward, then the drive back home and to the farm where i picked up a very very happy dog. |

Left work early and drove down to Sudbury where Francesca was having her green party (graduation party in a color theme). I was pleased that Seera and both of Juliet's cats basically ignored each other and coexisted quite well. |
Drove over to Weir Meadow and hiked around the grounds, avoiding ticks, and talked with Margaret for a while. Then went back to Juliet's and spent the afternoon writing. |
Another lazy day. Hiked with Seera through some Sudbury conservation land, then had pizza dinner with Will near Sudbury town center. |
Drove out to Bolton in the morning to visit with Doug Clowes and his family, then headed down to Norfolk to lunch and chat with Patrick. A quick stop in Sudbury, then in to Medford to take a nice evening walk with a stop for a frappe with Nancy. |
And finally, the reason that i stayed down in Massachusetts after the party on Tuesday—day one of the Boston Invite ultimate tournament, where i did some observing. We only had 4 observers, so it was pretty low key. This was the first time that i'd ever brought a dog (or dogs) to this tourney and Seera was in heaven with all of the attention that she was getting, although she did bark a bit when i had to chain her up when i was observing. |
Day 2 of the Boston Invite. Nothing terribly thrilling except one TMF for a player taunting another player. When i went to observe the first game, i totally forgot about Seera and one of the tournament directors found her halfway through the round just hanging out in the shade beside my truck. Daddy guilt, but good girl! |
Disc golf league night. Shot a 2 under par and kept the #2 tag, since the #1 tag was not in play. |

I posted a query on Facebook, trying to get people's thoughts about whether i should stay at my job or quit. Then i shut down the computer, hopped in the Mini with Seera, and drove north. I went via some back roads up to the Cesari's in Chelsea and arrived to find nobody home, so i hiked around their property and spent an hour or two sitting on a rock in the shade doing some writing. No one ever came home, so i drove back to East Wallingford. The Mini was running hot (it was a hot day), but it would cool down on the downhill sections, so the cooling system was working. Got home to a lot of good comments but nothing that swayed me definitively to quit. |
