Frosty morning, but warm enough to get the Mini out. The battery was dead, so i had to let it charge up for a while.
|
Took the trash over to the transfer station. Seera was walking very slowly.
|
Went over to the farm. |
Drove into Rutland to pick up my CSA veggies at the Farmers Market. Got to see Josh and Meadow's new baby Emmaline.
|
Seera's getting weaker, but can still get in and out of the house through the dog doors. |
Election day. I drove the Mini into Wallingford and voted for Hillary Clinton for president and Bill "Spaceman" Lee for governor of Vermont. When would i ever get another chance to vote for Spaceman Lee? After the quick in and out of town hall (one person in line in front of me to vote), i headed up the back roads to Rutland, skirted the main drag out to US-4 and on up Sherburne Pass to Back Country Outfitters, where i dropped off their winners plaque from the Battle For Route 100 disc golf tournament. I talked to Mike at BCO for a while, then pointed to Mini south on Route 100 back down to Ludlow, then up Route 103 home. It was a beautiful day for a drive and as i drove, i formulated the idea for a short story about a woman on a drive in a classic British roadster. Over the next couple days i wrote it. Seera at the farm. I was lucky enough to catch Hannah using the vegetable washer. That night was the first Winter Indoor Ultimate League game. Our team this session is "chameleon," so we change shirt-colors each game. Tonight we played in red and beat the Green team 31-29. After the game we started listening to the election coverage on the drive home. We were all very silent, listening in alternating disbelief and anger. |
Partly inspired by the election results, i started designing, building, and painting a sign for my front yard.
|
Seera hasn't been moving from this spot very much. |
The last picture of Seera. She couldn't get up from this spot. I carried her back to the rug, then made an appointment for the vet. I drove her up to Kara & Ryan's so that they could say goodbye, then took her to the vet for the last time. This was much harder than losing Teco, i think because i didn't have another dog to carry on with. I avoided driving home by continuing on down Route 103 to Okemo, where i picked up my instructor uniform for the season. That afternoon i finished the sign i'd been making and installed it in my yard.

I started making "face mine" baby blankets to sell on Etsy. |
The tree guys came to remove the rest of the dead tree that had fallen on my house in September. I went up to the farm and sat on the porch talking with Kara for a while while she rested her very-pregnant belly and watched the dogs play. |
Winter league ultimate. We lost to the Purple team 28-27. I ended up on the field playing defense for the overtime point and couldn't sub out. I kept my guy in the backfield mostly, but he made one up-line cut that got them in a better position for the eventual game-winning score. |

I rode my bike up to the farm, which was an exhausting haul up Shunpike Road. I'd always wanted to do this, but i'd always had dogs to tote along. |
Gorgeous day. I took the Mini over to the transfer station, then up to the Rutland Farmers Market to pick up my CSA veggies. When i got home, i took all of the polka dots off. |
And then it snowed. Probably where the Mini will sit through winter. |
I had taken some nice pictures of the Discraft banners at Nationals and sent them to Pad at Discraft. He sent me a box of discs in return, which arrived today. Super cool! |
Drove over to Okemo to drop off all of my gear in the instructors locker room. Talked with Keri for a bit.
|
Opening day at Okemo. Took a few runs on something akin to concrete. |
Thanksgiving. Took a few more runs at Okemo. Went home and had beef soup for dinner. |
Taught my first lessons. Two level-3 brothers, ages 8 and 10, for 2 hours, then two level-1 sisters, ages 5 and 7, for an hour. |
Day one of snowboard A-group training. Rode along with Todd as he trained four new instructors. Above is the only pic i took today, stopping alongside Route 103 on my drive in to hop out and snap it. |
Day two of A-group training. I was pretty worn out by the end of the day. |
Taught an all-day lesson with one 10-year-old girl who could rip. |
Miserable rainy day. I took one wet run, then went home after 10-o-clock line-up (no lessons). Played winter league ultimate that night and we lost to the Black team 30-25. |
First day off since opening day. I went up to the farm, hoping to see Kara & Ryan's new baby Sky, but they were off at a doctor's appointment. I left them a present of a baby blanket.
