I asked Megan if she wanted to go see Johnny English after work someday at the Lake Theater down the street from the office. It was POURING rain when we decided to go so we borrowed an umbrella from Dan and ran down the street. After the movie, which was the sort of thing that maybe you'd rent if you were bored and wanted to see something silly, we had dinner at the Flat Top Grill. |
The Chicago Ultimate Summer League final tournament out in Naperville. I don't remember how we did, but it wasn't that well i think. |

I joined Megan, her roommate Robyn, Katie, and Katie's boyfriend Randy to see the Matrix Reloaded at the IMAX theater at Navy Pier. I thought that it was a special super-big print of it, but it was just the same film shown on the IMAX screen, so the top and bottom of the square screen were blank. Still kinda cool though. |
Jason in the office, poisoning his stomach with caffeine. There was a workman removing a fire escape from an empty building next to the office that morning. |
I played in the Milwaukee Cooler tournament with the old Albuquerque Anarchy guys (going by the name Nickel-D this tournament). There were 16 teams in the B pool, we were seeded 2nd in one of the 4 pools of 4:
1. SloMo - St. Louis We started out with our legs under us which built up our egos and made Jim Field think that he was actually being an effective captain. It all started to slide as our oldness kicked in. For the record, the average age of our team was 37.5. The median age was 40.5. Natron's brother Nick was 20, which brought the average down a bit. Then there was our stellar pick-up from Chicago, Ned at 26, Then the Dickmans at 31 and 32, then the jump to Adam and the rest at 38 on up.
Saturday Pool Play: We actually came back on SloMo to tie it then take the game. After spending all our available nickels in that game, we played a crappy game in the "sweet 16" round against a 4-seed from another pool, but we managed to pull it out, despite having to do the Hokey-Pokey with them and listening to them SING a 3-verse song to us after the game. ABQ - 15, TBD (Minneapolis) - 7 4-0 on the day, we proceeded to crack open the spew and played some guts.
Game 1:
Game 2:
*Virgin guts experience. Good dinner, lame party, awarding of two cheesecows. |
Sunday arrived with us oldsters feeling mighty sore and tired, but we woke up enough to play down to the first team for a while. We triumphed and sat down to let our legs solidify and watch a brutally long quarterfinal between 2 young fast tall teams that ran way too much. One of those teams finally emerged victorius and it was our fate to pit our old craftiness against their young, uh, whatever the opposite of craftiness is. Unbelievably, we played some tight D and at about 9-2, when we'd just gotten another D and score, one of their players turned to Mark and asked "Man, what are you guys made of?" Our rallying cheer that point was the answer they sought: "Green chile and gizm!" So we pulled it out and faced a final against a team that had just beat SloMo in the other semi 15-12. We thought our run of luck was about to expire against a not-quite-as-young and more experienced team. Well, for some reason, and i'm thinkin' that by this point all of the liberally ingested pharmeceuticals had kicked in, we played a good solid game all the way up to Adam's attempted push-pass for the final goal. But even though he maintains that it was the right throw, it didn't matter 'cos we eventually scored.
Sunday Play: So we are the undefeated B-Pool champions, looking forward to winning B-Pool Masters Nationals. And we pulled off the never-before CHEESECOW TRIFECTA: One cheescow for having the first check in to the TD. One cheesecow for being from the furthest away. One cheesecow for winning the B Pool. |
I'm sitting here at work listening to The Clash and trying hard to avoid working on this godawful training project which is making me want to quit. I actually tried to figure out how much money i'd need to have saved up in order to quit and not work for a whole year. If i sold my house and moved to a more rural area where i could get a house for about half of what this one sells for... i could almost do it. Hmmm... |
Bought Erin Mckeown's latest CD "Grand" today. It's quite grand. |
Siren company outing to the Cubs. Jason and Katie watching the game. Matt Clement pitching. He pitched the entire game. |
