I'd been wanting to get Robbie Robertson's debut solo CD for a while and it had been out of stock at Amazon for a long time, but i finally got it today. Short, but nice atmospheric and melodic songs. I took only two pictures today. Here they are. |
Played with Stonecutters at Tune-Up. |
Day 2 of Tune-up. |
Played with Stonecutters at Sectionals and placed 4th, but only the top 3 advance to regionals. |
Crystal-clear sunset this evening. I took some pics behind the office, then as i was riding my bike home from work i saw this train at the Oak Park Metra station with a glowing sunset behind it. I stopped, ran up the steps, and shot 3 or 4 pictures of the scene. |
Brought Teco in to work to see if he could catch the mouse we've seen scurrying around. He chased it but didn't catch it. |

Bought 2 CDs today: Oysterhead - "The Grand Pecking Order", and Los Lonely Boys. I was hunting for stuff from Stewart Copeland and found out about Oysterhead which has a freaky geeky coolness to it, and i found out about Los Lonely Boys from a posting on a Los Lobos message board. Someone said that if you like a combination of Los Lobos, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Santana, get this album. I did. It's good. |
Went to see DADA at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge. This was the FIRST rock 'n roll show at the Pickwick and the sound was not spectacular, but it had a nice homey up-close feel. For those who got there early, DADA did their sound check in front of a sparse audience. It was mostly free-form jazz fusion with hints of "Ask The Dust" in Mike's noodling, then Joie sang a few lines of "Skater Boy". Opening Act 1: World Without Sundays. Great stuff. If you like DADA, you'll probably like these guys outta LA. Very short set though. Opening Act 2: The Goldstars. Kinda garage rock with a 60s vibe to it, but not great.
DADA * Joie took an extended bass solo on Ask The Dust while Mike switched guitars due to a broken string. ** AMAZING! Mike only played guitar during the solos, otherwise it was just bass, drums, and vocals. *** First time since 1995! Thanks Maria! ****Mike walked off the stage during Phil's drum-solo intro to Posters and Phil had a LOOOOOONG solo, with a couple of stops, looking around as if to say "where are you guys?" Then the three lads traded licks before Mike finally kicked in with the vocals. All in all, a good show even if the sound wasn't great and the encore was too short because 1. These old theaters are cool!, and 2. NO SMOKING! On to Park West.... This show was the first to see the NEW black dada t-shirts! After the show i chatted with the guys from World Without Sundays and bought their CD. It has a sort-of mix of Queen and David Bowie sound to it, but distinctive as well. |
Saw Erin McKeown at Schuba's. Jason Ross and i took the L down there after work and had dinner at a little mexican place. He wasn't interested in the show so he went home and i went to Schuba's. It was a great show, just Erin on electric guitar with a drummer. |
