All the midweek lessons are being consolodated at the Jackson Gore side of the mountain so we had plenty of instructors. I opted to not work and went home early. I also decided to go down to 4 days a week, taking Fridays off from now on. |
Morning group of one level-3 adult. No afternoon lesson. |
Morning group of one level-3 girl who had the skill, but not the confidence to slide down the hill by herself. No afternoon lesson. |
We were low on instructors and i was supposed to have a morning lesson while Landon and Peter Novom (usually a ski instructor) took the all-day lessons, but the two all-days ended up in the same group, so i helped out Peter for a lap, then helped Rick with private lineup. In the afternoon, Matt and i co-taught a level-1 school group of 12 kids from Mill River school. |
No morning lesson. Afternoon level-4 lesson with one college-aged kid. It was misty, foggy, and drizzly most of the day. Winter league ultimate. Missing a few players, so there was lots of playing time and it was a tough game. We couldn't quite score to tie in the last 20 seconds, so lost to the Chameleon team 31-30. Right near the end of the game, i pulled a muscle in my thigh, rrrgh. |
Chiropractic session in the morning, then took the FJ in for its 60,000 miles service. With no extra driving around, i pulled into the service bay with the odometer at exactly 60,000. I rule.

Really cold. -3° in the morning, but a brutal wind making it feel much colder. I think i had a level-2 adult group of one, but it might have been a level-1 kid. Don't remember. |
2-hour level-1 private. No other lessons. Still super cold. |
Four kids in a level-1 lesson. One of them looked to be under 7 years old. Her mother was hanging out with us and the kid started crying after about 10 minutes, frustrated. They decided to bail out of the lesson, which left me with three nice Canadian kids who picked it up fairly well. One of them was signed up for an all-day lesson so i had her for the afternoon and got her to connect turns on the lower mountain, which was good. |
2-hour private in the morning with a 5-year-old and his dad, both level 1. It was snowing heavily and there simply wasn't enough slope to slide. A bit of a frustrating lesson, but the dad ditched the son with half-an-hour left and we took one run up the lift, which helped him a lot. Followed that lesson with a 1-hour private with a guy who needed to learn how to turn. He'd just go straight until he whipped the board around and stuttered to a stop. After that, i started an afternoon group lesson until Dylan showed up from the other side and took over so that i could get some lunch. I should have made some runs in the accumulating powder, but i felt pretty wiped out, so went home. |
Lotsa snow. 18-20". |
Went over to the farm and took pics, then stopped by the Clarendon Gorge. |
The ice hanging over my porch was awesome. |
Morning group of level-1's i think. Babysat a Snow Stars class while the instructor took two of the kids in to pee, then didn't get an afternoon lesson. |
Finally got booked with a group above level-2! Unfortnately, the one kid was booked as a level 4 but was really a level 2 or 3ish. It was an all-day lesson and he was more interested in stopping to play in the snow than snowboarding. We were riding along with Thomas's level-3 group in the morning, then it was just him in the afternoon. His dad showed up after a while and he quit early. After work i drove up to Lincoln, NH and checked in to a hotel/condo place. When i walked up to the front desk the woman behind it asked "are you Mr. Ford?" I affirmed that, then asked if i was the only one checking in. Yep. |
Day one of AASI All Mountain Freeride clinic. I ran into Rob Bevier and his wife Trena in the morning and saw their daughter Samanta later in the day. The clinician was Dave Lynch, assisted by his understudy and stunt monkey Eric Wright. Participants were Doug, John, Matt, Adam (another one, not me), Kevin, Mike, and Jess. Jess and i were the only two goofy-foot riders, so i spent a lot of the clinic riding fakie, which was good practice, especially in the pipe. It was a beautiful day and we covered a lot of varied topics, from carving to park & pipe. After a tiring day of snowboarding a few of us and the Beviers had dinner at a good burger place right next to my hotel. |
Day two of the AASI clinic. Cloudy all day, but still good snow. Lots more riding. At the end of the day, i stuck around for half an hour or so, then drove up I-93 through Franconia Notch (never been through there before) to St. Johnsbury, then across Route 2 and eventually to the Shelburne Fieldhouse for winter league ultimate. I was a bit pooped and got scored on a bunch, but we beat the Gold team pretty handily 37-25. |
Chiropractic session. They don't seem to be doing much any more. |
I was scheduled for adult level-2's in the morning, but no one showed. I had a 12:30 one-hour private, then no afternoon lesson. |
Only a couple morning lessons, but i didn't get one. No afternoon lessons either, but i stayed through 2:30 private lineup. |
Steady rain. No lessons. Since Landon had left early the day before, he offered to stay and i went home after 10-o'clock lineup. |
The mountains were floating in the clouds this morning. Taught a young couple on their 5-year anniversary. They'd tried it on their own and both had very good balance. Got 'em connecting turns under the lift after a couple hours. That was the only snowboard lesson and there were no afternoon lessons. Late game at winter league ultimate. We beat the Black team 29-24. Good tight game the whole way. I felt much better than the week before. |
Drove down to the doctor in Brattleboro and found out that i have some canine infection in my sinuses. Huh. Coulda found that out over the phone without the hour-and-a-half drive each way.
