Second day of zipline training. I had a difficult brake-block transfer on line 5 and wasn't happy with it, but otherwise did fine. Ultimate that evening. I was exhausted and my legs were itching to cramp up on the drive home. |
Last day of zipline training. I did well, making a much cleaner brake-block transfer today. |
I was scheduled to work at Okemo, but due to bad weather and low guest numbers, they decided not to open the challenge course so i didn't have to go in. The weather cleared in the afternoon and i took a drive down through Weston and Landgrove to Peru, then back through Londonderry to Andover, Ludlow, and home. |
Went to the crappy Rutland theater to see Wonder Woman. Then i wrote something about it. |
Disc golf league. Again don't remember how i shot, but it still wasn't well. But i did win the CTP and took home a few bucks. |
Drove to CA. |
CA Reunion. Saw a couple of my books in the "CA Authors" display. I was housed in Haines House with all of the class of '87. Turns out that a lot of them are younger siblings to people that were at CA when i was there. They all partied late into the night but i was feeling a bit like an outsider, so i retired to my room around midnight. |
Drove to Maine. I cut across the top of the Boston suburbs and hit US-1, heading north. I drove past Portland and up to Camden Hills State Park, where i pitched my tent and walked down to the ocean. |
I drove up to the top of Mount Battie before leaving the park, then continued north on Route 1. I drove through Freeport, Maine, but didn't stop at L.L. Bean, then drove past Acadia National Park, but again, didn't stop. I ended up crossing into Canada to Roosevelt-Campobello International Park and went up to the tip of it, where i watched the standing wave between the island and the outcropping of rock where the lighthouse is. When i got back on the road, i had to decide if i wanted to push into New Brunswick or start heading west again. I wasn't sure how long it would take me to get home, so i opted to turn west, heading across Maine Route 6. In late afternoon, i looked for a campground, but the only ones near me were commercial places and it was starting to rain, so i pushed on to Peaks-Kenny State Park, where i was able to catch a gorgeous sunset over Sebec Lake. Lots of mosquitos at the camp site. |
The plan in the morning was to drive to the Maine/NH border and access the time. It was near midday when i got there, so i decided to keep going and get all the way home. That ended up being a long haul, especially when i missed a couple turns and ended up taking a longer route than i wanted. The Mini ran hot a lot, but performed pretty flawlessly. |
Disc golf league. Shot a -1 on the front and -1 on the back for a -2, which was the best of the night, giving me the #1 spot on the board. I also won the CTP for the second week in a row! |

First day of official zipline guiding. I arrived just before 8:00 to find that i was immediately needed to do the check-out run with Katie. Toni hadn't showed so we started late, then got the belay ropes switched, hanging the rope for tower 8 on tower 2. Katie zipped down to tower 3 before we decided to call and check which rope was which. We confirmed that we had the wrong rope and were told that someone would bring the tower 8 rope up to us, so i pulled the rope from tower 2 then belayed off the tower so that i could get the new rope on the ground. THEN we were told that Chris would just cut a new rope for tower 8 so i had to jug back up to the platform and throw the rope to Nicky, who was just arriving with a tour. Whew! After that i took out a 2-person tour as lead guide with Katie as sweep. Nicky shadowed me up front to make sure i was comfortable with it. In the afternoon i was a sweep guide with Brady leading and Katie shadowing along. |
Brady and i did the check-out run with no mishaps this time, then i worked in the challenge course until 1:00, then got cut loose. |
Official release date for The Smiley-Face Book. |
Took a drive up and around Lake George just so i could get a picture of the Mini on the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry. Shot a -1 at disc golf and ended up in 3rd or 4th, but won the CTP for the 3rd week in a row! |
Drove over to the Signshop, then the back way down to the north end of Chester and back. |
Okemo employee picnic day. I did the inspection run, then all the zip guides went out and did a safety tour, then i ran two more tours. Didn't get lunch. Left from work and drove down to the hotel in Westborough, MA for the Boston Invite tournament the next day. |
Boston Invite, day 1. I observed two games. Ben, Sandra, and i had dinner at an Indian restaurant near the hotel. |
Boston Invite, day 2. I observed three games, then drove home. |
Back to zipping. Rainy day. Don't think there were any tours. I was scheduled to be on zip team 1 but didn't realize that if there's only one team, that team has to do inspection. |
Another rainy day.
|
Did the inspection run with Katie, then ran two tours with her. I had to do my first two retrievals on Zip 7—the first one let go of the catch rope, the other i missed my throw. It started raining and there was another tour behind us, so Toni and Katie zipped in and we got both tours down quickly. |
Had a chiropractic appointment in the morning. It started raining when i got out so i called in to see if i was needed at work. They said no so i stayed home. |
Did the inspection run with Chase, then ran a tour of 6 as lead guide, then a tour of 9 as sweep guide. |
